Heavenly Valley

Heavenly Valley Ski MapHeavenly Valley is the name of the neighborhood at the base of world class ski destination Heavenly Resort.

This is a highly desired neighborhood for winter recreation enthusiasts. Homes here are closer to the ski lifts than any in South Lake Tahoe. Features may include ski-run views,  mountain views, lake views and an alpine setting. There is a wide range of home values due to the condos on Ski Run Blvd to the large mountain estates with fabulous lake views. There are small, older cabins, A-frames and fixer uppers come on the market from time to time, but they do not last long.  The Heavenly Valley neighborhood is the number one most desirable winter vacation rental home locations in Lake Tahoe.  Renters want to be close to the slopes, and who can blame them?

Heavenly Valley Ski Resort

Covering 4,800 acres and containing 97 runs and 30 lifts, Heavenly Valley Ski Resort covers 2 states (California and Nevada) and boasts the highest elevation of Lake Tahoe ski resorts with a peak elevation of 10,067 feet.  It is owned by Vail Resorts, one of their 7 ski areas.

Heavenly Valley Ski Resort is a favorite of visitors due to it’s being the closest resort to the lodging and homes in South Lake Tahoe. The resort boasts an average snowfall of 360 inches annually and extensive snow making equipment should Mother Nature not come through.

Plans are now being created to have the ski resort become a major summer recreation destination with more hiking and biking trails and mountain top dining year round.

Stateline

Stateline

Stateline

The South Lake Tahoe Stateline neighborhood is located right in the heart of South Lake Tahoe on the California/Nevada border. This neighborhood is located as close as it gets to the majority of activities in South Lake Tahoe; casinos, Heavenly Ski Resort, Edgewood Golf Course, fine dining, fun shopping and public beaches.

Bijou

Home sales in Bijou tend to be higher than the other neighborhoods in South Lake Tahoe.  Why you ask?  The Bijou neighborhood provides a great opportunity for those seeking to be near the amenities found with in-town living as well as homes that are level and easy to get to in winter (a bonus for 2nd home owners not used to mountain driving).

The Area

The Bijou neighborhood is a South Lake Tahoe, CA neighborhood divided into two areas; Bijou 1 and Bijou 2. The Bijou area is located between Pioneer Trail and Highway 50, just west of Ski Run. Bijou 1 makes up the majority of the area and Bijou 2 is a much smaller “pocket” near the west side of Highway 50 and Johnson Blvd. Bijou is one of the oldest neighborhoods in South Lake Tahoe.  It is centrally located near Heavenly, the casinos, and the lake which make it a great area for either a primary or a vacation home. The homes found throughout the area represent a wide range of styles, ages and sizes. The average home in the area is a three bedroom, two bath home with approximately 1,300 square feet of living space. Many of the homes throughout Bijou feature mountain and/or meadow views.

History

Bijou’s neighborhood formation came in 1929 when William Bliss (son of D.L. Bliss of Tahoe’s lumber industry) developed Bijou Pines.  50′ x 100′ lots were available for $250 which you could buy for $25 a year with interest deferred payments.  As advertised in their sales brochure, “Bring your children to your own cabin site for the summer in the Great Tahoe out-of-doors, where they learn every flower, every tree, every rock, every mountain peak, every stream and every clod has a story to tell of a great orderly universe; where they learn “big muscle activities” which lay the foundation for a vigorous adult life’ where they learn to be dependent for their amusements on themselves, where the parent does not hear the youngster’s continual plea “What can I do next?”  There is always something to do that will give your children an experience which will bring them rich rewards in health, happiness and character building.”

Why live here?

In the Middle of  All South Lake Tahoe Has to Offer: Within walking distance of both Bijou neighborhoods are several gems of South Lake Tahoe.  First, there is the historic 9-hole Bijou golf course set in a meadow with vistas of Heavenly Ski Area and Freal Peak. The course is excellent for cross country skiing and nature walks during the off season.  Nearby you will also find the El Dorado Beach picnic area and boat ramp which is being remodeled and expected to be opened and ready to go by Spring of 2012, complete with snack bar, restrooms, non-motorized boat storage and beautiful terraces to enjoy breathtaking views of the lake.  The City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation complex is also nearby, and it includes a year round ice skating rink and swimming pool, seasonal playground and indoor gym. The Bijou Community Park is also conveniently located off of Al Tahoe Blvd. This park offers a playground, basketball, volleyball, a BMX and skate park, world class disc golf course and a dog park. Shopping, restaurants and other amenities are also very close by.
